Description
What Are T Anchor Bolts?
T anchor bolts feature a T-shaped head that slides into machine base T-slots, providing positive location and pullout resistance without embedded lugs. Common reference standards include DIN 186 (T-head bolts for T-slots) and ASTM F1554. Unlike standard L-shaped anchor bolts requiring precise embedment positioning, T-head bolts allow lateral adjustment during installation, accommodating misalignment between foundation holes and equipment mounting points.
Material of T Anchor Bolts
Carbon Steel Grade 2: Provides 60,000 psi minimum tensile strength for light to medium-duty machinery mounting. Economical choice for indoor applications with protective coating.
Carbon Steel Grade 5: Delivers 105,000 psi minimum tensile strength for heavy industrial equipment. Heat-treated for improved load capacity and fatigue resistance.
Carbon Steel Grade 8: Offers 150,000 psi minimum tensile strength for extreme loading conditions. Spec for high-impact machinery and vibration-intensive applications.
Stainless Steel 304 (A2-70): Provides 70,000 psi minimum tensile strength with general corrosion resistance for food processing and cleanroom environments.
Stainless Steel 316 (A4-80): Delivers 80,000 psi minimum tensile strength with enhanced chloride resistance for marine and chemical plants.
Surface Finishes
Zinc Plated: Delivers 48+ hours salt spray protection. Standard for carbon steel T-anchors in general industrial environments.
Hot-Dip Galvanized: Provides thick zinc coating for outdoor equipment foundations. Resists corrosion without hydrogen embrittlement risk.
Mechanical Galvanizing: Applies zinc coating mechanically. Preferred for high-strength Grade 8 anchors where hydrogen embrittlement is a concern.
Plain (Oiled): As-manufactured surface with rust preventive oil. Acceptable for indoor installation with subsequent grout encapsulation.
Passivated: Standard finish for stainless steel. Removes surface contaminants and maximizes corrosion resistance.
Specification Parameters
Diameter: M10 through M48 metric; 3/8-inch through 2-inch imperial
Length: 100mm to 1000mm metric; 4-inch through 40-inch imperial
T-Head Dimensions: Conforms to T-slot standards per machine tool specifications (DIN 650 for metric, ASA B5.1 for inch)
Thread Length: Full thread or partial thread with specified thread engagement length
Thread Configuration: Coarse thread (UNC/ISO coarse) standard; fine thread for vibration-sensitive applications
Vertical Application Scenarios
Machine Tool Installation: Precision grinders and machining centers require exact leveling and alignment. T anchor bolts slide in base T-slots, allowing fine positioning before final torque. The T-head bears against slot walls, preventing rotation during nut tightening.
Turbine Generator Mounting: Power generation equipment demands positive anchorage against dynamic forces. T anchor bolts secure turbine bases to concrete foundations while accommodating thermal expansion through slotted mounting holes.
Press Room Equipment: Stamping presses and injection molding machines transmit cyclic loads to foundations. T anchor bolts with Grade 8 materials resist fatigue failure while permitting alignment adjustments during initial installation.
Conveyor System Assembly: Material handling systems use T-anchors in extruded aluminum framing. The T-head engages rail channels, providing continuous adjustability for belt tensioning and component positioning.
Customer Case
Situation: A large machining facility installed five new CNC milling machines. Foundation anchor bolt placements showed cumulative misalignment up to 3/8-inch from equipment mounting holes. Standard L-anchors and T anchor bolts would require jackhammering and re-pouring foundation sections.
Task: Engineering required T anchor bolts accommodating 3/8-inch positional adjustment while maintaining full clamping force and vibration resistance under high-speed machining loads.
Action: Supplied 1-inch diameter x 18-inch T-anchor bolts, Grade 5 steel, hot-dip galvanized, with 6-inch thread length. The T-head slid in machine base T-slots, allowing full 3/8-inch adjustment in both directions. Grade 5 material provided 105,000 psi tensile capacity. Hot-dip galvanizing protected against coolant exposure.
Result: Installation completed in two days versus estimated two weeks for foundation modification. The facility reported zero anchor-related vibration issues over three years of continuous operation. Total savings exceeded $40,000 compared to foundation rework.
