Hex Head Screws Alloy Steel Stainless Steel Sheet Metal Screws Hex Head Screw
Hex head screws are common threaded fasteners with hexagonal heads, which are six-sided tops without indentations. These screws allow for greater torque than traditional circular screws and are installed or removed with socket wrenches. They do not require a nut for fastening and come in a variety of materials and finishes, such as black oxide, zinc plated, zinc yellow, armor coated, hot dipped galvanized, and chrome coated. Coated screws have varying degrees of corrosion resistance based on the type of environment in which they are installed.
Material
Carbon Steel (Grade 4.8, 8.8, 10.9, 12.9) – Standard for general machinery and construction.
Stainless Steel (304, 316) – Corrosion-resistant, used in marine, food, and chemical industries.
Alloy Steel – Heat-treated for high strength in automotive and aerospace applications.
Titanium – Lightweight and corrosion-resistant, used in medical and aerospace industries.
Brass – Decorative and corrosion-resistant, used in electrical and plumbing.
Aluminum – Lightweight, used in electronics and automotive.
Surface Finishes of Hex Head Screws:
Plain (Uncoated) – Standard for stainless steel and brass.
Zinc Plated – Basic corrosion resistance (common for carbon steel).
Black Oxide – Improves wear resistance and reduces glare.
Hot-Dip Galvanized – Heavy-duty corrosion protection for outdoor use.
Dacromet/Geomet – Advanced anti-corrosion coating for harsh environments.
Nickel Plated – Decorative and corrosion-resistant, used in electronics.
Common Sizes & Specifications of Hex Head Screws:
(Available in metric (ISO) and imperial (UNC/UNF) standards.)
Applications:
Construction & Structural Engineering – Used in steel beams, bridges, and heavy machinery.
Automotive & Transportation – Engine mounts, chassis, and suspension components.
Industrial Machinery – Securing heavy equipment, hydraulic systems, and gearboxes.
HVAC & Plumbing – Pipe flanges, boilers, and ductwork assemblies.
Railway & Aerospace – High-strength fasteners for tracks and aircraft structures.
Marine & Offshore – Stainless steel hex screws for corrosion resistance in saltwater.
Furniture & Woodworking – Used in bed frames, workbenches, and outdoor furniture.
Advantages:
High torque capability – Hexagonal head allows for strong tightening with wrenches.
Durable & strong – Suitable for heavy loads and high-stress applications.
Wide availability – Standardized sizes in both metric and imperial systems.
Versatile – Used in almost every industry requiring secure fastening.
